Jessica Mai is a Canadian singer-songwriter bringing a sparkly twist to pop with her self-coined “pixie pop”, a bubbly, tongue-in-cheek sound that’s equal parts heartfelt and whimsical. A lifelong musician, Jessica picked up a guitar in high school and began performing in pubs and coffee shops at 19 after leaving theatre school, spending the next decade writing, performing, and touring as she found her voice. 

 

In 2020, she dove into music production, creating the children’s album Penny Pom Pom: Believe in Your Magic!, which earned a nomination for a Canadian Folk Music Award. This launched her into producing her own solo music, culminating in her debut Jessica Mai single, The Universe in Her Hair (2023), and three follow-up songs: Fly, Cool Kids, and Cliché — two of which have music videos on her YouTube channel. Blending electronic and acoustic sounds, from lush synths to the charming omnichord, Jessica’s music explores the messy, magical side of being human, tackling mental health, love, loss, and feeling different, all wrapped in catchy melodies. Her songs resonate across generations, often leaving older fans grinning like kids after her shows.

 

A self-taught producer and performer, Jessica also shines on TikTok Live, where she’s building a lively community of fans. Whether performing solo or with her four-piece Vancouver band, she’s determined to make music that’s entirely her own, inspired by the DIY spirit of artists like Porter Robinson, Lights, Grimes and Adam Young.
