Jessica Mai is a Canadian artist who has lived many lives during her time as a professional musician. From nomadic busker to Joni Mitchell tribute to
children's musician to full time TikTok live streamer, Jess has always found a way to make music and performing her job.
Jessica didn't grow up in a musical family but she fell in love with performing by watching the pop princesses of the 90s / 00s and she knew she would have a career in singing. As a teen, Jess taught herself the guitar and began writing. She showcased her talent at open mics in her hometown of Langley BC and after a short time, she was being paid to provide entertainment for pubs and events. For years, her career didn't move beyond that with her bread and butter being wedding parties and 60th birthdays. What she really wanted was a community to understand her vision for her original music - the sparkly pop music she always knew she was destined to make.
In 2019, Jess was at a low point and she craved something new and fresh. For years leading up, her side hustle was working as a Disney princess for children's parties and she had become very familiar with performing for kids. She decided to launch her own children's show for which she created original character she named Penny Pom Pom. During the pandemic of 2020, Jess taught herself to produce music using Garageband and made an entire children's album in her living room. This album was later nominated from Children's Album of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Jessica followed up that first album with a Creative BC funded web series, 2 children's books and a second album all the while performing live for kids all over BC. Penny Pom Pom is one of Jess's proudest achievements.
In 2023, Jess felt new inspiration to return to pop music. The seed was planted with her first self produced single "The Universe in Her Hair". She had learned so much from her children's project and began to put her knew knowledge into the music she really loved. After upgrading to using Logic Pro, she released 2 more singles: "Cliché" and "Take Me to Tokyo".
Then came TikTok...
Jess doesn't remember why she decided to "go live" that one day in late 2024 but something called to her on an app she barely ever used and she's so grateful it did. Within a year, Jess accumulated over 10k followers and a loyal community who showed up for her almost every day to enjoy her original music and positive spirit. Today, her account has organically reached nearly 20k followers and her first album, which is entirely crowd funded, will be released in two volumes with the first dropping August 2026. Jess is now a full time live streamer with the majority of her show being made up of original songs requested by fans. Jess has promised her community that once they reach 50k followers, she will book her very first Jessica Mai tour.
